Balasore: In an attempt to put a curb on rising drugs trade in Balasore, Crime Branch Saturday raided the houses of three drugs mafias in Jaleswar block of this district.
The drugs mafias have been identified as Nasiruddin, Tairuddin and Sheikhbar.
According to officials, acting on a tip-off, a team led by Crime Branch DSP Manoj Rout raided the houses of drugs dealers at Jhadeswarpur area in this district.
The officials have seized Rs 2 lakh in cash, gold ornaments and some important incriminating documents, said the DSP.
The raids were conducted to garner more information about their drug trade network, a source said.
Notably, the recent arrest of a drug dealer with links to international drug mafia has exposed the deep roots of drugs trade in this district.
Many allege that Balasore has become the hub of drug peddling in the state, if recent developments are taken into consideration. Drug peddling has become rampant at Phuladi, Chasakhand, Haladipada, Rupsa, Basta, Kadraiyan and Jaleswar areas, sources said.
Besides, locals often accuse that hooch and liquor flow freely from West Bengal amidst local excise inaction. With increased drug peddling, the crime graph is also allegedly in an upward trend in the area, they added.
