Bhograi: The reported gangrape of a 13-year-old girl from West Bengal has taken a new twist. The girl was said to be a mentally challenged while the police started an investigation into it. Her clothes were sent for forensic test.
Police recorded her statements Sunday and interrogated three youths of Bhograi Lodge where the girl was given shelter.
However, the youths could not recognize the girl. Some locals had seen her asking for money from people.
Police came to know that the girl was a Class-VI student of Ramnagar area in West Bengal and was admitted to a nursing home in Medinapore in 2016. Later, she was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for her mental illness. The girl was handed over to her father. Again she will be brought back for interrogation Monday, said IIC Narendra Kumar Das.
It was alleged that the girl was allegedly drugged and gangraped by five youths in Bhograi block.
The matter came to light after locals spotted the girl lying in an unconscious state Saturday morning.
The girl was admitted to Bhogarai PHC. After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Jaleswar CHC as her condition worsened.
