Balasore: This year the festival of Raksha Bandhan has coincided with the India’s 73rd Independence Day. It has also given the chance to girl students of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College here to send over 500 rakhis to their jawan brothers deployed at the border.
“This day has brought a rare opportunity as we are not only celebrating Independence Day but also observing Raksha Bandhan. The manner in which we are celebrating ‘Raksha Bandhan is something many other girls must have cherished for. We have sent rakhis for the jawans at border,” a few students said proudly.
“While sending the rakhis to our jawan brothers we are praying for their safety, health and prosperity. They in turn are ensuring our safety. The jawans are safeguarding our country from the enemy. So if the jawans are safe, our country will be secured and in the process we will also be safe. So we are praying for their long life,” observed other students.
The move ‘Rakhi for Jawans’ was launched August 8 by the campus students’ committee. The rakhis were sent by post.
“This day reminds us about how India achieved freedom from the British Raj. At the same time the day is also dedicated to our brothers. So we decided to observe the day in a way imbibing the feelings of love for our brothers as well as our motherland,” stated the organisers.
