Balasore: This year Raksha Bandhan has coincided with India’s 73rd Independence Day. It gave a chance to the girls of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College here to send around 500 rakhis to their soldier brothers deployed on the border.
“This day has given us a rare opportunity as we are not only celebrating Independence Day, but also Raksha Bandhan. The manner in which we are celebrating Raksha Bandhan is something many other girls must have cherished. We have sent rakhis to our soldiers,” some students said.
“While sending the rakhis to our soldiers we pray for their safety. The jawans are guarding our country. So if they are safe, our country will be safe and we will also be safe. So we are praying for their lives,” the students said.
The move ‘Rakhi for Jawans’ was launched August 8 by the Campus Students’ Committee. The rakhis were sent by post.
“This day reminds us how India won freedom from the British. At the same time the day is also dedicated to our brothers. So we decided to observe the day showing love for our brothers as well as our motherland,” the organisers said.
