Balasore, KISS emerge champions

Balasore players pose with their winners’ trophies along with officials at Athgarh, Sunday    

Cuttack:  Balasore and KISS emerged champions in the men’s and the women’s categories respectively of the 19th Senior State Kho-Kho Championships, which concluded at Athgarh here Sunday.

In the men’s category KISS finished runners-up while Cuttack secured third position. In the women’s segment Balasore stood second and Puri finished third. Arjun Singh and Subhashree Singh of KISS were adjudged best players in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Top teams win

Cuttack teams (A and B) and Bhubaneswar A registered convincing victories in their respective matches of the U-16 Inter-District cricket tournament here, Sunday.

Cuttack A thrashed Puri by 257 runs whereas Cuttack B defeated Nabarangpur by 136 runs. Bhubaneswar A prevailed over Balasore by 159 runs. However Bhubaneswar B suffered an eight-wicket loss against Rourkela.

(At Ravenshaw Ground): Cuttack A 331/4 (Prince Sanket Behera 115, Jagyanjit Sahu 100 n o) bt Puri 74 all out in 45.4 overs (Saideep Mohapatra 3/12) by 257 runs.

(At Nimpur Ground): Bhubaneswar A 193/9 (Sudarshan Swain 51) bt Balasore 34 all out in 16 overs (Partha Sarathi Sahu 3/4) by 159 runs.

(At SCB Ground): Cuttack B 201/8 (Sambit Kumar Sahu 71) bt Nabarangpur 65 all out in 27 overs (Aniket Mishra 5/23) by 136 runs.

(At BOSE Ground): Bhubaneswar B 60 all out (Vijay Kumar Yadav 3/9) lost to Rourkela 61/2 in 21.4 overs (Ashirbad Swain 38 n o) by eight wickets.

3 selected from Orissa

Two players -Suraj Kumar Behera and Bikash Naik and physio Subhakanta Sahoo from Odisha have been selected in the East Zone team for the U-16 Inter-Zonal cricket tournament to be played at Mysore, June 24-July 9.

Mixed results

KISS India girls’ team thrashed Sri Lanka 27-5 in a Youth Rugby Friendship match at the KIIT premises here Sunday. However KISS India boys’ team suffered a 12-17 loss against Sri Lanka boys.
