Balasore: Special judge for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Ajanta Sadangi Saturday convicted a rape accused and sentenced him seven years rigorous imprisonment and a penalty of Rs10,000 here.
The Court also directed the convict to undergo another six months jail if he failed to pay the fine.
Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda said the judgment was pronounced after cross-examining 10 witnesses and 11 documents.
Panda added that the accused was tried under section 457,376(2)(f) and four of POCSO Act and the court ruled that the punishment under these sections which would run concurrently.
The convict Anil Malik (19) of Armala village under Remuna police station limits had raped a 12-year-old girl February 2013 in her maternal uncle’s house in the same village while her grandmother was not present.
