Bandh hits normal life in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A 12-hour bandh called by Joint Action Committee (Milita Kriyanusthan Committee) Monday disrupted normal life in Bhadrak.

The Committee is demanding the setting up of a medical college and hospital in the district.

Shops and business houses have downed their shutters while schools and colleges remained closed.

Vehicular movement came to a grinding halt after the Committee members picketed at various places including on NH-16.

Besides, the members staged a demonstration at the railway station, disrupting train services.

Demonstrations, strikes and rallies have been conducted at seven blocks of the district for the past two months, demanding the setting up of a medical college in the district.

“Several memoranda have been given to the Chief Minister through the district Collector. Since the government is not considering our demand, we have no other option,” a member said.

Political parties and other organisations have extended their full support to the bandh.

However, emergency services like ambulances have been exempted from the bandh’s purview.
