Bank deducts Rs50K from customer, refunds after police intervention

Jharigan: A bank reportedly deducted Rs 50,000 from a customer after he withdrew cash, but they had to later refund it due to intervention of police in Jharigan area of Nabarangpur district.

A complaint was lodged with Jharigan police station. The complaint said, Rajesh Kumar Padhi of Jharigan had withdrawn Rs 2.05 lakah from his account and that of his wife from the SBI at the block headquarters October 4.

Next day, bank cashier Rajib Siuli called Rajesh to the bank and told him that he was paid an excess of Rs 50,000. However, Rajesh denied it.  On examination of CCTV footage, it was clear that cash was not overpaid.

A police team led by IIC Naresh Kumar Pradhan started an investigation and inquired the bank cashier and manager.  It was learnt that Rajesh had not been paid excess cash. Finally, the bank had to return the money.
