Jamankira: In a major breakthrough, police Saturday cracked the Jamankira-based Andhra Bank branch loot case and arrested three inter-state dacoits.
The arrested were identified as Budhadev Biswal of Jharsuguda, Rakesh Behera of Bargarh district and Ganga Sagar Ray, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a press conference here, Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said a special team was formed to investigate the bank loot. After conducting raids at multiple places in Odisha and neighbouring states, the police got success.
“A special team was formed to conduct a probe into the bank loot that had taken place August 3. The team carried out raids at different places within and outside the state and managed to arrest the accused,” Arora said.
The leader of the gang is involved in more than 12 bank robberies across the country, the SP said, adding the trio was wanted by Odisha, Bihar and Chhattisgarh police for long.
Three country-made pistols, 12 cartridges, Rs 1.75 lakh in cash, two bikes, seven mobile phones and three fake number plates were recovered from the dacoits.
The criminals had looted Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint from the Jamankira branch of Andhra Bank and fled with the hard disk of the CCTV camera installed on the premises in an attempt to destroy evidence.
