Puri: The district administration has asked banks to keep an eye on daily transactions of their customers during the general and Assembly elections.
The bankers have been asked to submit details regarding the daily transactions of candidates and other customers to district collector and returning officer Jyotiprakash Das soon after the notification for the third phase elections in state.
Das asked the bankers to inform him the details of customers whose daily transactions would cross Rs 1 lakh during the elections. Moreover, banks have been told to contact the Income Tax department, district collector and superintendent of police (SP) when the daily transaction of any customer would cross Rs 10 lakh during polls.
“Banks have a very important role to ensure free and fair polls. The district collector has recently convened a meeting with the bankers to seek their cooperation in this regard,” said an official.
It is learnt that the administration has asked commercial banks to arrange basic facilities like drinking water and seating arrangements for voters at 200 model polling booths in Puri district. “The banks have been asked to arrange wheelchairs and ramps for differently-abled voters at polling booths,” said the official.
