Udala: In an attempt to enforce the government directive on single-use plastic ban, Udala NAC officials in Mayurbhanj district Saturday raided a number of commercial enterprises looking for banned polythene bags recently.
The special team formed to conduct raids found that more than 20 stores had kept polythene bags for handing out to customers. Besides, some of them were also found to have stored thermocol plates, disposable plastic plates along with other similar banned items.
The raiding team collected around Rs 8,000 as fine from these businesses. Further, these shopkeepers have been warned to stop using polythene, said by NAC executive officer Ratan Kumar Pattanaik.
Ban on usage of single-use plastic would be imposed throughout the state from October 2. The proposal of the ban included banning single-use plastic products like plastic bottles, carry bags, plastic spoons, and plates.
According to the executive engineer of NAC, the raids will continue after October 2 as well.
