Soro: Miscreants brutally tortured a youth here Monday evening by first inflicting injuries with sharp weapons. Then to inflict further pain, they stitched the open wounds with the youth howling in agony.
Such a barbaric incident occurred in Gopalpur area under Kantapada police limits in Balasore district Monday evening.
The injured has been identified as Prashant Jena, son of Narendra Jena of Arala village. He is fighting for his life at Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH).
According to a source, Prashant had gone to Gopalpur market for some work Monday evening. It was about 7.30pm when some youths came on motorcycles and abducted him. Before people could react to save Prashant, the miscreants sped away from the spot with him. The locals however, immediately informed his family members and Gopalpur police outpost.
On getting the information, a police team reached the spot and launched a search for Prashant. Later, they spotted him lying unconscious in a pool of blood near Nuapur Hatuani Chowk bridge. He was immediately rushed to Gopalpur government hospital and later shifted to Balasore DHH.
The police have launched an investigation to find out the reason behind the attack. They are also waiting for Prashant to regain consciousness so that he manages to give some information regarding the miscreants.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that the miscreants are from Kuapada village of Nuapur panchayat. Past enmity is the reason behind the attack, they said.
