Bargarh man in chains for 8 yrs; family seeks help

Bargarh: Mentally challenged Dayasagar Puri (27) from Ambabhona area in Bargarh district remains tied to a cot with iron chains for over past eight years owing to his family’s inability to bear his treatment costs.

Youngest son of Rameswar and Tapaswini Puri, Dayasagar lives along with his parents, elder brother and sister-in-law near Ambabhona hospital premises. The family earlier owned 50 decimal of farmland which they have mortgaged and spent on medical expenses.

“We had taken him to Bargarh district headquarters hospital, Burla based VIMSAR and another hospital Raigarh area of Madhya Pradesh. By now, we have spent about Rs 3 lakh on his treatment, but in vain,” Rameswar said.

Meanwhile, without adequate treatment amid poor financial condition of his family, life has become miserable for Dayasagar. He had a tendency to often move out of his house. Given his mental condition, his family members have tied him with chains to keep him safe at home.

Tapaswini appealed generous persons as well as the state government to extend a helping hand for Dayasagar’s treatment.
