Bargarh woman missing case: Three held, main accused at large

Bargarh: Police Monday arrested and forwarded to court three accused in the missing case of a 24-year-old woman who was found 48 hours later in a severely injured state during the recently concluded Dhanu Yatra in Bargarh city.

The accused were identified as Sarjan Dansana, 36, and Prahallad Dash, 33, both residents of Putka village under Bijepur police station limits, and Jayakrushna Dansana, 40, a resident of Dhumabhata village under Jagdalpur police station limits. However, the main accused remains at large, and the arrested individuals allegedly aided in his escape.

According to reports, the woman had gone missing January 12 while attending the Dhanu Yatra. About 48 hours after her disappearance, she was rescued from the Kurlajung forest area on the outskirts of Bargarh city in a severely injured condition January 14.

The victim’s mother filed a complaint with the Bargarh Town police, alleging that her daughter had been abducted, raped, and subjected to an attempted murder.

Efforts are on to apprehend the main accused and other individuals involved in the case, Bargarh Town PS IIC Satyajit Kandankel said. The victim is still undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.

While the victim’s family alleged rape, the Superintendent of VIMSAR confirmed that medical reports indicate no evidence of rape.

On the other hand, the Bargarh Conscious Citizens Forum has called for a 12-hour shutdown in Bargarh from 6am to 6pm Tuesday.
