Basic facilities missing at polling booths of Birmaharajpur

Birmaharajpur:  With only three days to go for the second phase polls to be held across all seven Assembly seats under Bolangir parliamentary constituency, many booths in Birmaharajpur Assembly segment are yet to come up with basic facilities such as drinking water kiosks, toilets and proper shades among others.

Interestingly, the Collector had informed in a press conference here earlier that necessary steps have already been taken to make all the arrangements as asked by the Election Commission (EC). The local returning officer’s office also does not have any information regarding the shortcoming of the basic facilities.

When asked, ADM Amulya Kumar Sahu — in charge of the elections here said, “Efforts are on to provide all the facilities at the booths within the next two to three days.”

It may be mentioned here that the EC had directed the state Chief Electoral Officer to ensure that arrangements like uninterrupted power supply, drinking water facilities, toilets, ramps for physically challenged and rest shades existed in all the polling booths.

The Birmaharajpur constituency consists of Binika, Ulunda and Birmaharajpur blocks along with Binika NAC. The voters here will exercise their franchise in 267 booths, April 18.
