Berlin: Bayern Munich has overpowered Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 after Franck Ribery scored twice at the 17th round of Bundesliga.
The “Bavarians” Saturday picked up their fifth straight victory in the league as Rafinha and Franck Ribery were on target to inflict the “Eagles” the sixth defeat of the season, Xinhua reported.
It was a stiff piece of work for the German record champions though as Frankfurt started highly motivated and kept Bayern’s defence busy in the opening period.
Hence, Adi Huetter’s men came to chances in the early stages as Danny da Costa tested Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer before Sebastian Haller missed the target from promising position.
As the match progressed, Bayern took the upper hand yet it was their first note-worthy chance of the game that opened the scoring as Robert Lewandowski shrugged off Frankfurt’s Simon Falette before finding Ribery, who tapped home the square pass at the far post in the 35th minute.
Bayern doubled almost the advantage before the break but Thomas Mueller rattled only the woodwork by header following Lewandowski’s delivery into the box.
After the restart, Bayern continued to be the more active team whereas Frankfurt lacked in penetration and ideas to overcome the visitor’s well-positioned defence.
As a result, Frankfurt had to wait until the 61st minute to produce their next promising chance when Manuel Neuer defused Danny da Costa’s shot from close range.
With the result, Bayern climbed onto the second place of the standings and reduced the arrears to front-runners Borussia Dortmund to six points. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt stay on the fifth position.
