Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: A four-member delegation of BDA Employees’ Forum that met urban development minister Pushpendra Singh Deo on the proposed shifting of town planning cell to BMC Thursday came back disappointed.
The union is up in arms against the government’s move of shifting the planning and horticulture departments and around 100 skilled staff to the civic body. It also does not want its parks of less than five acres to be handed over to BMC.
BDA Employees’ Forum president Sameer Mohanty, who met the minister at secretariat, said the meeting turned out to be a farce as the minister gave a cold response to the issue.
The minister has asked the union to write to BDA vice-chairman Krishan Kumar and resolve the matter amicably, sources said. If the matter remains unresolved, another meeting would be convened. Kumar said he would look into the matter once he receives a written complaint. This has not gone down well with the BDA employees.
“We strongly condemn the privatisation of town planning to render services to BMC and BDA both for issuing building plan approvals,” Mohanty rued.
Pushpendra Singh Deo remained unavailable for comment and did not also reply to text messages.
