Chandahandi: Even as farmers protest against the administration over various mismanagements at paddy mandis, the block development officer (BDO) was seen covering polytene sheets on paddy bags in order to save them from rain.
According to reports, Chandahandi BDO Debendra Prasad Bal covered the paddy lying at a mandi to save it from rain Sunday. Along with Bal, his collogue Subhranshu Mallick has brought some polythene sheets from nearest market and covered the paddy bags lying at Muzariguda, Potipani, Chandahandi and Koilimunda paddy mandis. Some farmers, who were present at the mandis, also helped them in this work. BDO Bal was also seen at road mishap sites and helping victims in recent past.
Earlier, Bal had carried a mentally-challenged woman, who was roaming on the road, to a hospital in his own vehicle. He also took the woman to his government quarter after treatment and provided food and shelter for some days. The woman was handed over to the family after she was cured.
Similarly, the BDO goes to houses of elderly persons who are unable to come to the office and gives them pension money. For the humane nature, he has earned good name in the locality.
