Sambalpur: An elderly woman was rendered critical after she was attacked by a wild bear Saturday.
She has been identified as 50-year-old Sabitri Patel of Gahirapali village under Gadaloisingha Panchayat in Sambalpur district.
Sabitri was later admitted to Jujumara community health centre (CHC) for treatment.
Sources said Sabitri had been to a nearby forest along with fellow villagers to pluck Kendu leaves at around 5:00am Saturday. While she was collecting Kendu leaves, a wild bear pounced on her leaving her critically injured.
Fellow villagers, who were present on the spot, came to her rescue and rushed her to a hospital. Her condition is said to be stable.
