Bear panic, two hurt

Jajpur: Panic gripped Jajpur Road after a wild bear from Vyasa Sarobar strayed into human habitations Friday. Locals spotted the animal on Dala bypass. Later it hid itself in a bush near the railway station. Fire personnel and forest officials started a joint operation to catch the animal.

A large crowd gathered at the site to have a glimpse of the wild animal. Two persons were injured when they scrambled for safety as the bear suddenly came out of its hideout.

“A search for food might have prompted the animal to stray into the human settlement. Efforts are on to catch it. Traps were laid to catch the bear and release it back to the forest,” said a forest official.
