Sajanagad: After four hours of untiring efforts by personnel from the Fire Department and Forest Department, a bear was rescued from an open well at Jamudiha panchayat under Nilgiri block in Balasore district, Sunday morning.
Villagers came to know about the whereabouts of the bear when it started growling after falling into the well. They then informed the Forest Department. Soon officials of the both departments reached the spot to rescue the bear.
Seeing the plight of the near, the personnel got into the act. They first spread a net on the mouth of the well, then managed to get hold of the bear’s leg with a noose and pulled it up. The bear was then released in Kuladiha sanctuary. Forest officials said the bear might have sneaked in from Swarnachuda hill in search of food Saturday night before falling into the well.
It should be mentioned here that Minati Singh, wife of Banamali Singh of Jamabani village under Mahishapata Panchayat in Nilgiri block, was injured in a bear attack Saturday morning when she went to a nearby forest for some work. She is undergoing treatment at Nilgiri government hospital.
