Beware! Coronavirus may have already entered your houses with vegetables

Bhubaneswar: Are you buying vegetables regularly? Be careful, or else there is every possibility of the deadly coronavirus entering your house along with the vegetables and infect your family members.

Almost all vendors in weekly and daily markets and in colonies procure vegetables from the Unit-I market here. Authorities informed Monday that an owner of a vegetable godown in the market has tested positive for the virus.

On the condition of anonymity, some traders in Unit-I market said that police had visited the market. They have asked the traders to stay under home quarantine if they had come in contact with the infected person.

“There are many vendors who used to buy vegetables from the infected person. Prior to testing positive for COVID-19, they bought vegetables from him. By now, they must have come in contact with hundreds of buyers. So it is quite possible that the vegetable sellers may have infected a large number of people. They in turn can pass on the virus to their family members, said the traders.

Complete shutdown is in force in the capital city. However, markets, vegetable shops and grocery shops remain open from 6.00am to 1.00pm. However, at a number of places it has been observed that social distancing norms are not being implemented properly.

Police are also not strictly implementing the guidelines said some residents of this city. There are specific squads to carry out raids and inspection in markets. But that is not happening. City dwellers demanded the police should be strict and force everybody to follow norms to prevent the spread of the disease.
