Bhubaneswar: A pioneer institute in the education segment, Birla Global University (BGU), Bhubaneswar celebrated its foundation day with full fervour and gaiety on ‘Utkal Dibasa’, — the day on which Odisha achieved the distinction of becoming a state in India.
Jnanpith Award winner, eminent poet and retired civil servant, Padma Vibhushan, Sitakant Mohapatra graced the occasion as chief guest while renowned scientist and academician and presently vice-chairman of the Higher Education Council, Odisha Dr Ashok Kumar Das was present as the esteemed speaker at the function.
The ceremony started with the traditional lighting of lamp and a welcome address delivered by registrar Dr BK Das, The Registrar. He eulogised the honoured guests for their contributions in the field of science, literature and academics. Birla Global University is committed to impart quality education, he said. Dr H Chaturvedi, director, BIMTECH and a member of the board of governors-BGU congratulated the University on its foundation day in a video message.
Dr Ashok Kumar Das, while addressing the gathering elaborated on how human civilisation has passed through a series of evolution in education from gurukul to information technology aided universities. However, he laid emphasis on the need of adding the element of compassion in all forms of education. In his speech Jnanpith Award winner Mohapatra stressed on the ‘need of having a human face in education and not becoming totally materialistic in its mission.
In his speech Vice-Chancellor, Dr Sudhakar Panda said even though Birla Global University is ‘young, it is ambitious’. It is constantly engaged in inculcating changes through designing new syllabi and courses to make the university academically more relevant, Panda informed.
Prizes were distributed by the guests to the winners of quiz competition held in the university recently.
