Bhadrak Facor plant fire: 2nd worker dies

Bhadrak: Yet another worker, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai after being critically burnt in a fire mishap at Facor plant in Randia area in Bhadrak district, succumbed to his injuries, Friday night.

The deceased worker was identified as Bijay Mohapatra of Barpada in Bhadrak district. He was undergoing treatment at the National Burns Centre in Mumbai.

The other deceased worker Ratikanta Sutar of Koranta village had died April 16.

The two had sustained critical burn injuries while charging the blast furnace at the Facor plant at Randia in Bhadrak district.

Sources said that the body will be brought to Bhadrak tomorrow after a post-mortem in Mumbai Saturday. News about the death of the second worker triggered tension at his village as well as at the plant site in Randia.

Reports said that Bijay and Ratikanta sustained critical burn injuries after fire sparkles fell on them at the plant April 11. The two were initially rushed to Bhadrak headquarters hospital and later taken to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. They were airlifted to Mumbai for treatment through a green corridor created to the Bhubaneswar airport after their conditions deteriorated.

In view of gravity of the situation following death of the second worker, the district administration has further extended the promulgation of prohibitory orders till 6 am of April 25 from 6 am of April 22.
