Amid the ongoing Bharat vs India row, an old video of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is going viral on social media.
In the video, former Bihar Chief Minister is seen explaining Bharat vs India while brushing his teeth with a neem twig during an interview at his residence in Patna.
In this video clip, when the reporter asks Lalu whether he has ever used a toothbrush, he responds with a sarcastic tone by saying, “Delhi mein toothbrush use karte hain. Wahan datoon nahi milta, kyunki Delhi toh India hai na, aur yeh Bharat hai.” (I use toothbrush in Delhi as I don’t find neem twig there. Because Delhi is in India and this (Patna) is in Bharat.)
Basically, Lalu in his usual tongue-in-cheek attitude elucidats the difference between the urban and rural divide within the country.
Although the video of his is many years old, it suits the current Bharat vs India row. Several social media users targeted the opposition by circulating Lalu’s video clip to justify the use of the term ‘Bharat’ instead of India.

Notably, speculation about renaming India to Bharat erupted as the G20 dinner invitation sent by President Droupadi Murmu referred to her as the President of ‘Bharat’ instead of India.
‘Bharat’ has also been used in a G20 booklet meant for foreign delegates titled – ‘Bharat, The Mother of Democracy’.
The Congress and other opposition parties alleged that the BJP government at the Centre is deliberately doing such things because it is scared by the unity of the opposition parties.
It can be mentioned here that leaders of 26 opposition parties came together and formed a new alliance to challenge the ruling BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held next year, in 2024. The new alliance was named INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).
