Bhuban: Fire fighters at Bhuban fire station in Dhenkanal launched an indefinite strike to press for their six-point charter of demands Monday.
Their demands include status at par with police department, government registration of Havildar and Fireman Association, regular salary to contractual workers, pension and retirement benefits to retired workers.
Under the leadership of convener Sisir Kumar Dehury, workers such as Suryamani Rout, Shiv Prasad Sethy, Biswanath Dalei, Subash Mandal, Bhagirathy Pradhan, Jitendra Pati and Ramya Ranjan Nayak joined the strike.
The agitating employees warned that they would intensify the strike if demands are not met.
