Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar girls registered a convincing 24-16 victory over Raipur in the kabaddi event of the 49th KVS National Sports Meet, which got underway at the KIIT premises here Friday. Around 35,000 participants from 25 states are taking part in the mega event.

Sarita Soreng, Eva Panna, Janaki Murmu, Shanthi Murmu, Susmita Tanty, Banya Kabiraj and Jasoda Munda of Odisha have been selected for the U-17 Indian women’s football team’s preparatory camp for the BRICS games at Johannesburg, South Africa from July 17 to 22, Football Association of Odisha (FAO) stated through a press release, Friday.
The players were selected on the basis of their performances in the recently concluded AIFF selection trial, which was held at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, June 8-9.
Football tourney
The national sub-junior girl’s football championship will be held in Cuttack from July 1 to July 12, Football Association of Odisha (FAO) announced in a statement Friday.
A total of 20 states will be participating in the tournament. The matches will be played at the Barabati Ground, Ravenshaw University Ground (I and II) and Odisha Police Ground. It is also to be noted that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has deputed national selectors in this tournament to scout the best possible talents for the national sub-junior football team.
