Bhubaneswar: Minor boy dies after being ‘swept away’ in open drain

Bhubaneswar: A ten-year-old boy died after he was “swept away” in an open drain at Masjid Colony in Unit III area in Bhubaneswar Tuesday.

The minor boy has been identified as SJ Rakesh.

Notably, parts of Bhubaneswar experienced rainfall today.

Eyewitnesses said the mishap took place when Rakesh was playing with his friends. He rushed to catch a balloon floating on the rainwater, which drifted him into the open drain, and he was swept away, they added.

A source said that the locals and the fire brigade team, upon being informed about the incident, immediately launched a search operation.

However, after an hour-long search and rescue operation, the boy was found in the drain near Oscar City in the Laxmisagar area of the capital city, the source added.

He was rushed to the Capital Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
