Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Sunday brought out an initiative called ‘Team SHINE’ (Sanitation and Hygiene Inspection for Neat Environment) with the objective to enforce cleanliness in Bhubaneswar.
During an event Sunday, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das and BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange launched this initiative.
To mark this occasion, a roadshow by the enforcement squads took place from Vani Vihar to BMC office via Acharya Vihar.

According to an official source in BMC, Team SHINE will deploy as many as 10 enforcement squads, each consisting of five members, to conduct inspection rounds across Bhubaneswar to monitor instances of unlawful garbage disposal.
The source added that these squads will focus on raising awareness about maintaining a pristine environment in the first phase, and subsequently, strict measures will be taken against those who violate the rules. Each enforcement squad will be led by retired Army personnel.
According to BMC Commissioner Kulange, Team SHINE, at first, will raise awareness and try to bring behavioural changes in residents. He also mentioned that stern actions will be taken against violators and a fine up to Rs 10,000 will be imposed against them.
