Dhenkanal, July 21: An attempt by miscreants to loot a Rourkela-bound passenger bus near Badajora nullah here was foiled by police Monday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Town police station raided an under-construction building where the gang of miscreants was a preparing a blueprint for the loot and arrested three of its members. However, three others made good their escape.
Sadar sub-divisional police officer Rajkishore Dora Tuesday said six miscreants, who were heavily drunk, were hatching a plot in the under-construction building to loot the private bus when Kaltax police outpost got a whiff about it.
On being informed, Town police inspector in-charge Pradip Kumar Pradhan, Kaltax police outpost officer-in-charge Ajaya Kumar Sahu along with a police team reached the building. However, as the police cordoned off the building, the anti-socials threatened the cops and attempted to hurl bombs at them to escape the arrest.
But the police raided the building and arrested three hooligans including the mastermind. They were identified as Babaji Sandh (37) of Dolamandap Sahi, Kalia Mati (26) and Subas Behera (27), the SDPO said.
The police also seized a few sharp-edged weapons and other items from the spot. The attempts by police to elicit information from the outlaws about other members of their gang failed to yield any
result.
The SDPO said Babaji has more than 20 cases against his name at Sadar and Town police stations.
A case has been registered in this regard under Sections 402 and 399 of the IPC and the accused were produced in a court Tuesday, he added.
