Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday criticised the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government over its claim on construction of 17 lakh houses under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY).
Addressing a press conference at the party office here, state BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra alleged that the state government was fabricating facts.
“While only 57, 538 houses have been built under BPGY, the BJD government is making claims that it has constructed 17 lakh houses under the scheme. If they are true, where are the facts?” he asked.
Mohapatra pointed out that according to a reply given by the Panchayati Raj Minister in the last Assembly session, only 57,538 houses have been built under BPGY. “From where did the government bring this 17 lakh figure,” the BJP leader quipped.
“The BJD government has resorted to making false claims only to hoodwink the people,” he further alleged.
The BJP spokesperson also alleged that not a single rupee has been allotted for the scheme by the state government in the last two budgets. He dared the state government to come out with concrete data and evidence to prove its claim.
“Not only the BPGY, the state government is also hoodwinking on the allotment of land rights to urban slum dwellers,” the BJP leader stated.
Refuting the allegations, BJD spokesperson Samir Das said, “The process for construction of 17 lakh houses is underway. The entire nation now knows that BJP is a merchant of lies. So, they (BJP) are thinking that BJD is also like them.”
Stating the announcement made by the Chief Minister that 17 lakh houses have been given away is indeed true, the BJD leader said, “Work orders have already been handed over. The houses are underway. This is a recorded thing.”
