Bhubaneswar: Members of Biju Yuva Vahini will plant over 30 lakh saplings across Odisha in this monsoon season, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while inaugurating the mega plantation drive-“Aame Gadhiba ,Sabuja Odisha” at Kalinga stadium here Friday.
“This plantation drives will make our state more green. I request you all to create awareness regarding various campaigns of government pertaining to pollution and regarding non-usage of plastic items. I repose my full faith and confidence it the Biju Yuva Vahini,” said Patnaik to the Biju Yuva Vahini volunteers on the occasion.
“I am very glad that the ways Biju Yuva Vahini volunteers have worked tirelessly at Jagannath Rath Yatra and helped clean the Puri beach,” he added.
Patnaik also planted the first sapling at the stadium premises in support of the plantation drive. The initiative has its significance as the state is geared up to host 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup in the city starting from November 28.
The plantation drive will help the idea of making the Hockey World Cup as a ‘Green Hockey World Cup’ as well as sensitise the general public to prevent the depletion of forests and to protect and expand the existing ones for future generations.
Around 2.5 lakh Biju Yuva Vahini volunteers will participate in the plantation drive across the 30 districts in Odisha.
