Phulbani: In a major breakthrough, Phiringia police busted a bike- lifting gang in Kandhamal district and arrested six persons Thursday evening. Police also seized 20 motorcycles from their possession.
Local police had detained a youth a day before for driving a motorbike without registration number, Phiringia police station IIC P Shyamsundar Rao informed.

During interrogation police found that, it was a stolen bike. Further investigations led the police to the bike-lifting gang. After the arrest of the six, police also conducted raids at several places and recovered the stolen bikes.
Those accused were forwarded to a local court in the evening, the police station sources added.
Notably, Bargarh town police had also busted a highway burglary gang and arrested five persons Thursday. Bargarh SP said that, many cases are pending against them at different police stations.
Phiringia police have been trying to find out links, if any existed between the two gangs in Kandhamal and Bargarh districts.
