Biramitrapur minor girl rape case: Missing survivor rescued by police after 24 hours

Biramitrapur: A day after survivor she went missing from the SOS Children’s Village in Rourkela City, the 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by police officers at Biramitrapur police station and forced to undergo an abortion, was rescued by Chhend police Saturday evening.

The girl was located by some villagers at Jhunmur of Biramitrapur area.

According to Sundargarh Child Welfare Committee, the SOS Children’s Village authorities and Chhend police brought her back. The girl was accommodated again at the SOS Children’s Village. She had jumped the compound wall and fled from the shelter Friday.

The incident surfaced after an FIR was lodged at Chhend police station by the SOS Children’s Village authorities. Police have to record the minor girl’s statement and produce her before the CWC as well as a local magistrate, the sources said.

Notably, erstwhile IIC of Biramitrapur police station Anand Chandra Majhi who is now in jail custody had allegedly raped the minor girl along with four others over a period of four months.

The survivor, who was over eight months pregnant at that time, was found roaming in Biramitrapur town June 14 night.

Odisha DGP Abhay handed over the case to Crime Branch June 30. The DGP dismissed Majhi and also apologised to the young girl on behalf of the entire police department July 1.
