Bird flu scare! Hundreds of chickens found dead in Khurda

Khurda: Few hours after the State government came up with a statement that not a single case of bird flu was detected in the state, the news of hundreds of chickens having died in Khurda district has raised fear and apprehension.

At a poultry farm at Gobindapur village under Begunia block, hundreds of fowls have died during the last three days.

However, why the birds are dying is yet to be examined. Suspecting it to be bird flu, fear has gripped poultry farm owners and non-vegetarians.

The panic was more so as no veterinary doctors had visited the said farm till the time of filing this report.

Notably, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra had stated Wednesday that Odisha had not detected any bird flu case. Around 11,000 samples from different areas were tested and no case was found positive, the government had said.

The Chief Secretary had also informed that the administration was fully prepared to contain a possible outbreak of bird flu. Rapid response teams are to be formed at state and district levels to tackle the situation, he had informed.
