Birthday boy Rakesh Roshan was once attacked by an underworld don

Mumbai: Rakesh Roshan’s birthday is September 6. Rakesh started his career as an actor 49 years ago in the 1970 film ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’. After this, he did a string of hit movies like ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’,Seema’,Man Mandir’ and ‘Buniyaad’.

Apart from acting, Rakesh has tried his hand in many areas but perhaps became more successful as a director.

Hindi film stars have always been a magnet for gangsters but very few people knew that Rakesh was once attacked by the underworld.

In the year 2000, Rakesh launched his son Hrithik Roshan with the film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’. The film was a super hit at the box office and then in 2001, he was attacked by underworld criminals receiving two bullet injuries.

According to a few reports, the attack on Rakesh took place outside his Santacruz office. Two persons opened fire at him and he was rushed to the hospital by his driver. It was later revealed that the culprits shot with the intention to threaten and not kill.

Rakesh was asked to share the profit of his blockbuster film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ that was made with a budget of Rs 10 crores but grossed Rs 62 crores in the cinemas.

As per reports, one of the two men who fired at Rakesh was a sharp shooter of underworld don Abu Salem. The name of that shooter was Jaan Usman Khan. He himself accepted it later after being arrested by Delhi Police. At that time the Delhi DCP had said in the statement that Khan had also admitted that he had made threatening calls to singer Daler Mehndi.
