Birthday girl Dia Mirza speaks on kiss with Emraan Hashmi; see video inside

The actress who wooed the world with her dazzling smile, Dia Mirza turns 37 today. The environmentalist actress opens on her movie career and more.

The Sanju actress was born December 9, 1981 in Hyderabad to German interior designer Frank Handrich and Bengali mother Deepa.

However, Dia’s parents separated when she was six. She soon adopted the surname of her step-father Ahmed Mirza. As the former beauty queen turns 37 today, we take a sneak-peek into her life-story.

“While doing a part-time job after my MBA, I was spotted by a model coordinator at Secunderabad Club. She insisted I look good and should give modelling a shot. She even offered me a show that was happening that weekend and required me to walk the ramp.

I did the show and it went off well. After that I got more offers and I would keep taking off to Bangalore,” Dia had once revealed in a Mumbai Mirror interview.

When asked about her movie Tumsa Nahin Dekha with Emraan Hashmi and the kiss, Dia shyly reveals about how the kiss went.

‘I needed to be cajoled and convinced that it was necessary. That is the turning point of the film, where it triggers off an entire chain of events. It is, honestly, not just a ruse to get more publicity and mileage.

In fact, any movie, which has been sexual or overtly physical, has been backed by a good script. That is why they have done well at the box office—be it Julie or Murder.

I was nervous about the kiss and Emraan gave me a lot of grief. He teased me mercilessly because he had done this in Murder. But, he promised that it would not be sexual or intimate. It was not a full blow kiss.

In fact, Emraan gave me pointers as to how to do it. He told me, ‘Just clench your teeth. I promise I will not enter your mouth.’

That helped me get into the post-reactions of the kiss—feel angry and humiliated. But it wasn’t easy. I would say hat’s off to Mallika. She’s one hell of a woman to be able to do it more than once in her films. It’s not something I could have done!
