Mumbai: Manisha Koirala, who was very successful in commercial as well as parallel movies is celebrating her birthday, Friday. Among her films successful movies are ‘Dil Se’ with Shahrukh Khan, ‘Khamoshi’ with Salman Khan, ‘Gupt’ with Bobby Deol and ‘Mann’ also starring Aamir Khan and Anil Kapoor. In fact Manisha Koirala’s role in ‘1942 A Love Story’ opposite Anil Kapoor is remembered by many.
Manisha Koirala started her career with the film ‘Saudagar’ which released in 1991. Her good looks and her acting skills helped her in establishing herself as one of the top stars in the film industry.
Born August16, 1970 in Nepal, Manisha’s grandfather BP Koirala was the Prime Minister of Nepal in late 1950s to the early 1960s.
Manisha was affected by ovarian cancer in 2012. However, she battled the disease and emerged victorious after treatment in the United States.
Manisha was initially more known as a Nepali actress. Manisha made her acting debut with the Nepali film ‘Pheri Bhetaula’ (1989). However, she soon came over to India and in the 1990s she was paired opposite all top Indian heroes like Salman, Shah Rukh, Aamir, Govinda, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar and Sanjay Dutt.
However, there was a period when Manisha was affected by alcoholism and her career declined. She got married to Samrat Dahal in 2010, but the two divorced in 2012. It was the same year she was diagnosed with cancer.
After her recovery, Manisha unveiled her book ‘Healed’ in which she talked about the time when she battled cancer and the mental and physical trauma she had to go through.
Manisha was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s biography on Sanjay Dutt ‘Sanju’. She portrayed the role of Nargis Dutt, the real life mother of Sanjay. Even though it was a bit role, Manisha’s portrayal of Nargis was appreciated.
