Biswadeb punches out Sachin

Bhubaneswar, July 5: In a thrilling and mouth watering bout, Biswadeb Patnaik of Utkal Karate School knocked out Sachin Mohanty of Pankaj Fighting Club in 4.42 seconds in pro-level category here Sunday.

The fight, for what people were waiting for began at 8.15 pm and from the beginning it was close. Both the players are not giving their opponents any chance. But a small error from Sachin in fifth and last round proved costly and Biswadeb was quick to utilise it.

However, the winner thanked his mentor cum coach Hari Patnaik for supporting him. “I must thank Hari sir for giving me a chance to participate in this tournament. It was a pleasure to fight in front of large home crowd. I will remember this moment forever in my life,” Biswadeb stated after the match.

But it was not a good day for other Orissa players as both Anil Patra and Pawan Kumar lost their respective bouts. Anil was beaten by Love Bagga of Mumbai while Pawan Kumar was knocked out Aditya Sanil.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Police Commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma were present on the occasion. The winner of respective categories will meet again in Mumbai for the National Championships to be played in September.
