BHUBANESWAR: The Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) organised a colloquium on ‘Pedagogical Innovations in Management’ as part of ‘Institute Day’ celebrations here recently.
Inaugurated by E A Augustine and Subhajyoti Ray, the colloquium focused on appropriate course designs, plans for self-study of students and blueprint for services.
Sandip Anand, a professor, said, “The need of the hour is to move away from teacher-centric design to student centric. Students should involve themselves in various live projects and achieve their goals through institutional focus and plans.”
The session was then followed by a presentation on ‘Ideal Management Teaching’ based on a survey done in various businesses by a group of four students.
Explaining the difference in pedagogical innovations between schools in India as compared to colleges in the West, one of the students said that strategic partnership with foreign universities will develop us to become respected and empathetic global citizens.
“The primary focus should be on individual research and developing skills that would benefit students’ aspirations and goals,” he added.
The event concluded with a panel discussion which was presided over by Prof. Avinash Tripathi, Prof. Banikanta Mishra, Prof. Bhaskar Basu and Prof. Ibha Kumar. They discussed on different topics like theory vs practice and focus on research.
