Bizarre! People die if they enter this place

Our world is full of many mysteries. Thanks to the power of social media and modern science, some mysteries have been solved over time but some still puzzle scientists.

A place located in the ancient city of Hierapolis in Turkey is home to a similar mystery. Hierapolis is host to an ancient temple. One can enter the temple through a fenced entrance, beyond which stairs go down and from which emerges suffocating carbon dioxide gas caused by subterranean geologic activity.

The effect of carbon dioxide gas here is so high that no one can escape it. This gas has proved to be very dangerous for humans, due to which people are afraid to go to this temple.

During the early years, castrated priests of Cybele descended into the plutonion (Sanctuary ), crawling over the floor to pockets of oxygen or holding their breath. Carbon dioxide is heavier than air and so tends to settle in hollows. The priests would then come up to show that they were miraculously immune to the gas and infused with divine protection.
