BJB Nagar residents protest murder

Bhubaneswar: Enraged residents of BJB Nagar area Monday staged a protest seeking immediate arrest of the miscreant who hacked to death a youth of Adheikhala Basti late Sunday night.
Placing the body on the road, the residents blocked the bustling Lewis Road near Ravi Talkies for a few hours.

Later, the crowd removed the blockade. The deceased was identified as Lochan Das, 24, a labourer.
According to sources, some youths of the slum had organised a feast at the playing field at the rear of Lingaraj Upper Primary school Sunday night. Around, 11.30 pm a miscreant attacked him an axe. The victim sustained several injuries. Hearing his cry, his father, Balaram Das, ran to the spot, just few yards from his home. Lochan was rushed to a private hospital from where he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Balaram Das claimed that his son before breathing his last told him that gangster Raja Acharya’s man had attacked him. Balaram alleged a person identified as Dipu Khatei of the same slum had committed the crime. The image of the assassin has been caught in the CCTV footage of a nearby shop at BJB Nagar area while he was fleeing from the spot holding the weapon used in the crime.

The IIC said, “It is unlikely that Raja who just got out of jail will be behind the murder. Additionally, the complaint lodged by the family has no mention of Raja in it.”
Meanwhile, two bike-borne miscreants hurled crude bombs at a hotel at BJB Nagar Monday evening. However, a bomb went off after hitting a car kept there. No person was hurt in the incident, said Padmanav Pradhan, IIC of Badagada police station. However, locals claimed that the bombing was reaction to the murder of Lochan Kumar Das.
