Bhubaneswar: A delegation of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy is scheduled to meet Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders Thursday in New Delhi to seek support for passing the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament.
Satpathy along with BJD vice-president and state Cabinet minister Surya Narayan Patro will meet senior leaders of SAD in the national capital, a BJD leader said.
Similarly, Patro along with Rajya Sabha MP Anubhab Mohanty and Bargarh MP Prabhas Kumar Singh will meet Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal either Thursday or Friday, the leader added.
Earlier, the ruling BJD formed delegations to meet seven national parties and 15 regional parties to seek their support for 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in Parliament and state Assemblies.
BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has taken the initiative to ensure 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in Parliament and state Assemblies.
Accordingly, a unanimous resolution has been passed in the state Assembly while Naveen has written letters to the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of all states and UTs in this regard.
