New Delhi: Reminding the principle of inclusiveness, Mayurbhanj MP Rama Chandra Hansdah Tuesday demanded that the face values of currency notes should be printed in all 22 languages listed in the Constitution.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the MP said, “There is a principle that the face value of currency notes should be printed in all the languages and scripts mentioned in the Constitution.”
He said that after the 21st Amendment there were 15 languages in the list and currency notes were printed in these languages and their scripts but after the 71st and 92nd Amendments seven more languages were accorded Constitutional status, but the face values were not printed in these languages.
“By the 71st and 92nd Amendments of our Constitution seven more languages were accorded Constitutional recognition, but in spite of the massive printing of new currency notes after demonetisation, the government seems to have forgotten inclusiveness. I demand that the face values of currency notes should be printed in all these 22 languages including my
mother tongue Santali,” Hansdah added.
