BJD leader, supporters leave party

Chandbali: The BJD received a jolt in Chandbali Assembly seat after the party’s district vice president Pratap Dhal along with his supporters resigned from the party.

His resignation came after Byomkesh Ray was given a BJD ticket for the seat. Dhal, said to be a ticket aspirant, was miffed.

Addressing the media, Dhal said, ”I was associated with the BJD for a long time. I played a role in ensuring victory of the party candidate at Assembly, Parliamentary and panchayat polls in the past. But I was being neglected by the party. I had to resign from the post.”

Ahead of his resignation, Dhal had held a meeting with his supporters at Jashipur panchayat Friday morning and had discussed the changing political equation in the constituency and his future course of action.

Dhal had been involved in the BJD’s organisational activities in Chandbali for the last 18 years. He was also the representative of MP Arjun Sethi in the block.

However, Byomkesh Ray said Dhal was sensing disciplinary action against him due to his anti-party activities. His resignation will no way affect the party, he said.
