BJD membership drive faces protest

Baripada: Even as the Biju Janata Dala (BJD) has been ruling the state for close to two decades, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has its political sway in Mayurbhanj politics with the saffron party having more number of Zilla Parishad members and MLAs than those of the BJD.

On the other hand, even as BJD’s membership drive is on, the party leaders have to face resentment of people, a report said.  The state BJD has laid thurst on reactivating and regrouping of the BJD base. The ruling party leaders have been carrying out a membership drive in the district by holding meets in various areas.

During the membership drive, BJD leaders have to face resentment of the people. A few days ago, the ruling party leaders held a meeting at Bholagadia under Khunta block.

The meeting was attended by executive president of the BJD’s district unit Debasish Marandi, district youth wing leader Jitendra Mohanty and frontline leaders of Khunta.  Local BJD leaders created a ruckus just halfway through the meeting. They opposed the leaders, throwing a barge of questions to the ruling party leaders. The BJD’s district youth president tried to settle the issue.

Asked about the incident, the youth BJD chief indirectly admitted to the ruckus.
