BJD MLAs protest Centre’s failure in providing jobs

Bhubaneswar: MLAs of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Friday submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through Governor Ganeshi Lal. The ruling party attacked the BJP government for its failure to fulfil its promise of providing jobs to the unemployed youths of Odisha. The MLAs also demanded a published list from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) detailing the jobs provided to the 36 lakh youths from the state in the last five years.

The MLAs marched out of the House after protesting about this issue and rallied to the Odisha Raj Bhavan to submit the memorandum to the Governor.

After submitting the memorandum, BJD leader and MLA Sanjay Das Burma said, “In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured that two crore unemployed youths of the country will be provided jobs every year. Accordingly, the figure comes to 10 crore in five years.  This means that jobs for 36 lakh unemployed youths should fall in Odisha’s share. Hence, we are submitting a memorandum to the President of India through the Governor.”

“We have demanded that the Central government should come out with the list of jobs provided to 36 lakh youths of Odisha in the Centre-run PSUs,” the BJD leader stated. He also threatened, “The way the Centre has deceived the youths and labour force of Odisha is not acceptable. We will further intensify our state-wide stir in this regard.”

Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said the  State government has provided more than 1 lakh jobs in government sector over the past four and half years. The Central government has not been able to provide 2 crore jobs every year as promised but  Odisha has appointed 33,000 Sikhya Sahayaks, hundreds of doctors, engineers, dental surgeons, teachers and government functionaries across various departments.
