Berhampur: Ahead of panchayat and civic body polls, the Biju Janata Dal(BJD) has revamped its women wing in Ganjam. The ruling party has restructured its district unit of Mahila BJD with induction of 92 new office bearers who are expected to strengthen its woman vote bank in the district.
This was stated by the district unit president of the Mahila BJD Sanghamitra Dalai.
Since the party has worked out its strategy with focus on women votes, it has been implementing a host of measures for women SHGs, who would play a key role in the coming polls.
In the revamp of the Mahila BJD, the party has appointed 14 vice presidents and an equal number of general secretaries in the unit.
Besides, 64 women from different Assembly constituencies have been made secretaries.
It is said that creation of such a number of posts in the party’s district unit has given moral strength to women who will work hard for garnering women support for the party in the panchayat and civic body elections.
The women office bearers will be visiting wards, blocks and panchayats to reorganize women voters and highlight various development works being implemented by the state government.
They will also point out failure of the NDA government at the centre in areas of price spiral of essential commodities, domestic gas and fuels.
Notably, the Mahila BJD will stage district-wide protests over these issues against the Centre November 1.
Women will be mobilsed to stage protests in the areas under Berhampur Municipal Corporation, in front of block offices, tehsil offices.
The 14 vice presidents of the Mahila BJD in Ganjam are Soudamini Biswal, Pradipta Reddy, Sumati Pradhan, V Laxmi, R Subani, Sanjukta Samal, P Harapriya, Sunita Mallick, Y Rupa Patra, Namita Patra, Sasmita Rout, Bilasini Padhi, Mitanjali Mishra and Sarojini Mohanty.
