BJD worker stabbed in Balasore, critical

Balasore: In yet another incident of poll violence, a worker of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) worker was attacked with a knife by a youth of rival party and stabbed repeatedly late Friday night.

The heinous incident has been reported from Uparadia village under Bahanaga block in Balasore district. The victim has been identified as Prashant Barik. He was rescued and admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Sources said the incident occurred while the BJD worker was going to a meeting venue of the party carrying posters Friday night, when a youth identified as Kahnu Charan Majhi of the same village attacked him. Later, locals rushed to the spot and called up the police, who sent the critically injured Prashant to a hospital in Soro. He was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH).

While Prashant is currently undergoing treatment, the Soro police have begun an investigation into the incident. It is notable to mention here that Balasore Parliamentary Seat is going to poll in the fourth phase- April 29.
