Kuchinda: BJP and Congress, the two major Opposition parties in Odisha, Wednesday observed 12-hour Kuchinda Bandh in protest against alleged attacks by some members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on workers of the respective parties in Sambalpur.
According to a source, the two party workers were attacked when they protested Tuesday during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the district. Bandh started at 6.00am and will continue till 6.00pm.
Hundreds of BJP workers were demonstrating when glass bottles and stones were thrown at them. Local police remained silent during the attack, an agitator who confronted the attack expressed.

Workers of Congress also shouted slogans over lady school teacher Mamita Meher murder case demanding resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra during the CM’s programme in Kuchinda. Meanwhile, the president of Congress youth wing in Kuchinda Jayant Kishan was attacked by some BJD workers.
“Congress party has been observing Kuchinda Bandh Wednesday. Some parties and organisations have also extended their support to the called bandh,” former MLA Rajendra Kumar Chhatria said.
Workers in large numbers from both BJP and Congress parties took out procession as a token of protest when the Chief Minister was on tour to distribute ‘smart health cards’ to several beneficiaries in Sambalpur district under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) during his visit to Kuchinda.
